North Carolina Transportation Museum
The Back Shop is the largest building on the grounds of the North Carolina Transportation Museum. When it was constructed in 1905 for Spencer Shops, it was the largest industrial building in the state. It was used for the complete overhaul of steam locomotives. The North Carolina Transportation Museum is located in Spencer, North Carolina. It is a great place to visit for “Kids” of all ages. Coleman enjoyed it when he was only two.

Wow! If I’m ever anywhere near this area, I’ll be sure to check it out. I love the way they incorporated beautiful design details into the brick work for an industrial building. The industrial buildings going up around here today are precast concrete slabs.

Thank you Dan. In all the advancements in architectural design you’d think they’d built better, however, they actually had better, stronger, longer lasting materials, and innovative designs in the olden days. Nowadays they build things (buildings, cars, etc.) to need repairs or replacing in a rather short time frame.
