One of the Bloganuary daily prompts was What do people incorrectly assume about you? Before I discuss that I would like to ask, What do you incorrectly assume about others?

What is an assumption? It is a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen without proof. Having an opinion about somehow someone is different than having an assumption about something. Opinions are personal views about a fact, a true statement, whereas assumptions are beliefs without any proof.

Assumptions are usually wrong and can lead to broken relationships, broken friendships. When we assume we probably interpret a situation or circumstances surrounding a person inadequately. It is best to ask questions and communicate with others instead of making assumptions. If you what to know something, just ask. If you need something clarified, ask don’t assume.

Like it or not, we all make assumptions. We make them based on our past experiences whether they be good or bad. We use our belief system to make assumptions. These assumptions help us form judgments, make meaning, and draw conclusions about what is happening around us and what others are thinking.

Tomorrow, I’ll discuss part two. What kind of assumptions do we make? How to stop making assumptions. What assumptions are made about me and whether they’re correct or not.
