Rödertor

The Rödertor is one of the impressive five (5) main medieval city gates of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria, Germany. It faces east towards the local railway station. This gate was originally built around the 13th century as part of the town’s outer fortifications. The clock face adds to its well-preserved medieval architecture charm that makes Rothenburg ob der Tauber so famous.
The Rödertor is situated on Rödergasse and features two (2) 13th-century gabled houses that once served as historic custom offices. It also has a Bastion and a Röderturm (Watchtower). The Bastion includes an outer defensive Bastion which was added in 1615. The Watchtower was built between 1385 and 1390. For a small fee, it is climbable and offers panoramic view of the old town.
