Guggisberg Cheese Factory

Guggisberg Cheese Factory is located in the heart of Ohio’s Amish Country. My daughter and I had the privilege to visit Guggisberg Cheese Factory April of 2012 while visiting maternal cousins.
Alfred Guggisberg came to America, in 1947, from Switzerland to pursue his dream of cheesemaking. When he arrived in the United States, he settled in Holmes County, Ohio. He began by creating Baby Swiss cheese, known for its smaller holes and milder flavor. Now world-famous and a household name, Baby Swiss is a true product of Ohio’s Amish Country.
Guggisberg Cheese, especially their Baby Swiss, is a favourite of cheese lover’s everywhere. [I am not fond of cold cheese, but I love all the cheeses made by The Guggisberg Cheese Factory including the goat cheeses.] One sample of any Guggisberg Cheese and you’ll understand why they’re award-winning quality. Guggisberg Cheese has been the winner of the Ohio Grand Champion Cheesemaker title numerous times and their Baby Swiss is recognized as the “best cheese in the country.”
When visiting the Guggisberg Cheese Factory, besides sampling their cheese products, you may watch firsthand how Guggisberg Cheese is made and understand how it has become world famous. They have over 60 varieties of cheese to choose from. It was our good fortune to discover that the cheeses Guggisberg Cheese manufactures have always been and always will be lactose-free. This is possible by their process of converting lactose to lactic acid, and their special cultures which utilize or consume the lactose during the cheese-making process. [My daughter is lactose intolerant so this which a wonderful discovery.]
Here is a list of cheeses which are safe for the lactose-intolerant:
• Premium Swiss
• Baby Swiss
• Amish Butter Cheese
• Lacerne
• Vintage Select
• Emmental
Guggisberg Cheese offers other products other than cheese such as Trail Bologna, Beef Jerky, Pepperoni Sticks, Summer Sausage, and fruit preserves for cheese.
If you ever have the opportunity to visit Ohio’s Amish Country, I would highly recommend stopping by and paying a visit to the Guggisberg Cheese Factory.

God Bless. Enjoy winter scenery, but not the cold. How’s your weather? I’m thankful Hurricane Helene has passed and won’t do anymore damage in our area. Thank you for sharing your time and thoughts with us. I appreciate y’all very much.

For this the last week of September and I light of the Effects of Hurricane Helene, I have chosen to choose a theme of Any Paved Roads where I am focusing on Paved Roads in Germany. I am challenging everyone to participate in this week’s Which Way Challenge by sharing your Paved Roads.
In the Winter of December 1978/January 1979 my parents flew over to Germany to visit my brother & his family. [My brother was stationed there for a few years while serving in the United States Air Force.]

Shown above are just a few of the Paved Roads my parents rode on while visiting with my brother in Germany. What kind of Paved Roads will you find to share with us? I hope y’all will share your Which Ways with us. Looking forward to Cee taking the Which Way Challenge back on in October.
Thank you for visiting and sharing my parents memories with me. They enjoyed their time in Germany, however, I do not recall seeing their slide photos before I began digitizing my Dad’s slides.

This is my Thirteenth installment of my combination of Thursday Doors & Monday Window featuring Antique Automobiles.
My dad loved cars shows, history, and anything to do with FORD. He started working for a FORD dealership while in high school in Great Falls, South Carolina. He worked there until he joined the United States Navy in 1948. After leaving the Navy, he again went to work for a FORD dealership. This time he worked of Pearson Ford in San Diego, California and continued working for FORD until he retired.
This week we are continuing with Antique Automobiles from the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation with four Antique Automobiles from 1903 – 1952. Displaying the Antique Automobiles from most recent to oldest.

An interesting fact about this 1940 Chrysler Crown Imperial is that it was an Official Parade Car which carried VIPs through New York City for almost 20 years.
It carried more than a hundred dignitaries including politicians, military leaders, diplomats. They rode in the car in ticker-tape parades through Manhattan’s famed “Canyon of Heroes.” Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ralph Bunche, Winston Churchill and A. Philip Randolph were just some of the parade car’s many distinguished passengers.

This 1903 Packard Model F is known as “Old Pacific.” In 1903 it became the second car to cross the United States.
Hope you enjoyed seeing the Antique Automobiles from the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. Next week I’ll be showing Automobiles from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana. Till next time, stay safe. Stay Strong. Stay Enthusiastic and Stay Positive.

Judy’s The Numbers Game #40 is this week and this week’s number is 161. To play along, go to your photos file and type that number into the search bar. Then post a selection of the photos you find under that number and include a link to your blog in my Numbers Game blog of the day. If instead of numbers, you have changed the identifiers of all your photos into words, pick a word or words to use instead, and show us a variety of photos that contain that word in the title.
This week in lieu of trying to find 161 in my photos, I have chosen a theme (instead of a single word) of A Bird’s Eye View. These were all taken by my dad from an airplane ✈️ in 1979 while flying back to San Diego from Germany.

Heidelberg Castle was one of several historical sites my parents saw while visiting with my brother and his family when he was stationed in Germany in 1979. My brother was his tour guide showing them the various interesting and historical sites. These statues surrounded by windows are just a few of the many contained around the walls of Heidelberg Castle.

Destination Fun
Blue Ridge Parkway
Driving the Blue Ridge Parkway from South Carolina to the Virginia Border and back down to Pisgah National Forest and then on into South Carolina once again was a trip I’ll always remember.

It has been seven years since I made that trip with my eldest son. We took the drive on his birthday weekend in October 2017. We stopped at various milestones along the Blue Ridge Parkway to see the beautiful views and tour a few different places along the route. We stopped at Stone Mountain State Park in Roaring Gap, North Carolina and hiked the Stone Mountain Loop Trail beginning at the Upper Trailhead. We continued driving the Blue Ridge Parkway once we left Stone Mountain State Park; we drove to Wilson, North Carolina (Wilson was my married name & the surname of my children.)
On the adventure South on the Parkway, we took a detour to my Cousin Jim’s Produce Market for some fresh produce & a break to stretch our legs. Before we arrived at Jim’s Produce, we stopped for a photo by the Doc and Merle Watson Highway sign ( Doc & Merle Watson are my fourth cousin & fourth cousin once removed respectively).
Venturing further south, we stopped at several more milestones to enjoy the beautiful scenery and views overlooking the valley. We stopped for supper at The Pisgah Inn’s restaurant. The food was delicious and the views were spectacular. The Pisgah Inn is located in the Pisgah National Forest amongst the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway (Blue Ridge Pkwy Milepost 408.6, Waynesville, NC).
It was a lovely and enjoyable trip, not just for the scenery, but always for the quality time spent with my son. Click on each photo for enhanced viewing. Have a wonderful day!

Road Trippin’ USA #6
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
Pima Air & Space Museum
And Westward
In the Summer of 1985, my parents went Road Trippin’ across the United States of America. They began their Road Trip leaving from their home in San Diego, California. They always planned what or whom they wanted to visit ahead of time.
This week I’m continuing with their Road Trippin’ adventures for My Which Way of Cee’s Which Way Challenge in Tucson, Arizona at the Pima Air & Space Museum.
Last week we saw some of the sights my parents visited at the U.S. Air Force Academy. When they left Colorado behind to continue on their Road Trippin’ USA adventures, they drove south into New Mexico before continuing westward towards their home in San Diego, California.
On their way driving south to New Mexico, they stopped at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Montrose, Colorado.
Here are a couple of photos of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park they viewed from the North Rim of the Canyon. I’m sure besides enjoying the views, they were glad to stretch the legs before they proceeded driving again.

Next stop for them was to visit the Carlsbad Caverns National Park in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Onward and Westward, they continued driving westward upon leaving Carlsbad, New Mexico with one final stop before finishing their Road Trippin’ USA adventure. Their next and final stop before arriving back home was to tour the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona.

Thank you for tagging along with me on my parents Road Trippin’ USA Adventures. Cee will be back soon (I think beginning in October). Please continue showing us your which way adventures. Have a fantastic weekend.

Road Trippin’ USA #5
Which Ways
St. Louis, Missouri
And Westward
In the Summer of 1985 my parents went Road Trippin’ across the United States of America. They began their Road Trip leaving from their home in San Diego, California. They always planned what or whom they wanted to visit ahead of time.
This week I’m continue with their Road Trippin’ adventures for My Which Way of Cee’s Which Way Challenge in St. Louis, Missouri.
Last week we saw my parents driving southbound from Indianapolis, Indiana after they completed their tour of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Today, we are taking a look first around St. Louis, Missouri and then we’ll continue on their westward journey.
St. Louis, Missouri:

The first stop they made was in St. Louis was at the Gateway Arch National Park. At the Gateway Arch they were able to take a tram ride to the top. The tram lifts you up 630 feet up to the top of the tallest monument in the United States.
While there they also visited the Gateway Arch Museum and later took a Riverboat Dinner Cruise on a 19-century paddle-wheel riverboat. They rode on the Tom Sawyer Riverboat along the Mississippi River seeing stunning views of the skyline. It was a unique and relaxing way for them to experience seeing the Gateway Arch and downtown St. Louis.
Next up on their Road Trippin’ USA Adventure was to drive westward to the U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY has many sites and facilities available for visitors to see on a self-guided tour. Their visit stop at the Academy was the Barry Goldwater Visitor Center, here they explored the resources available to help them with their tour.
Among the many various facilities they were able to visit were the Planetarium, the Cadet Chapel, Honor Court, Polaris Hall, Arnold Hall, Dolittle Hall, Falcon Stadium, and Thunderbird Overlook. The Cadet Chapel is located at the base of the Chapel Trail. From the Chapel Trail, they were able to view the historical statues and sculptures on displayed at the Honor Court. The U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY’s Gift Shop is located on the second floor of Doolittle Hall, which I’m sure they bought souvenirs to bring home.
Next week I’ll continue with their Road Trippin’ adventures for My Which Way of Cee’s Which Way Challenge. We’ll begin in New Mexico and venture onto visiting the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona.

Throwback to 2017
Sundance, the Sunshine Bear

I visited the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in Columbia, South Carolina with my daughter, Trisha and granddaughter, Alona back in August of 2017 [Seven (7) years ago]. We were able to enjoy the various zoo animals and the entertaining antics of Sundance, the Sunshine Bear.
Sadly, Sundance passed away on April 30, 2022 due to declining health. He came to the Riverbanks Zoo along with his brother, Butch, at the young age of only nine (9) months old. Sundance had a gentle disposition, kind eyes, and loved to interact with his zookeepers. He was known as the Sunshine Bear, always bringing a bit of sunshine to those who came to see him.

I once lived very close to Southern California beaches, but I have not lived there for many years. Pacific Beach, Mission Bay, Coronado Beach, and La Jolla Shores are some of my favourites and hold precious memories.
For years I have enjoyed the peacefulness of God near the shorelines of a couple different lakes. One of my all time favourites is the lake at Andrew Jackson State Park in Lancaster County, South Carolina.

Another lake my grandson and I have enjoyed relaxing, observing nature, having fun is Lake Haigler at the Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

One last “lake” to share with y’all is one we visit and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the beautiful atmosphere is at Little Glade Millpond off the Blue Ridge Parkway in the North Carolina Mountains.

I could sit at the shore of a lake anytime anywhere. I dream of walking along the shores of the California coastline. I have fond memories of doing just that. Someday, I hope to take my grandson to see & play in the Pacific Ocean. What shoreline do you wish you could walk along everyday? The Wax Figures of the Apollo 11 Crew was one of the wax displays in the Hall Of Presidents Wax Museum in west Colorado Springs, Colorado back in the day. First Ford Mustang
My dad loved cars shows, history, and anything to do with FORD. He started working for a FORD dealership while in high school in Great Falls, South Carolina. I have always loved Ford Mustangs, however, the closest I ever came to owning one was a toy orange mustang Ford came out with back in the 60’s.
I’d love a ride in a Ford Mustang; anyone want to Pull Up a Seat & ride along with me. [This one is NOT for riding in though.] We could ride in a different FORD, but it wouldn’t be the same as riding along the Pacific Coast Highway in an Antique FORD Mustang.

Looking back to a trip I took seven years ago to Jacksonville, North Carolina; I visited with my sons. My eldest son, John and I toured the Lejeune Memorial Gardens on February 2017. The Lejeune Memorial Gardens honors those who serve our country and is a place to gather to remember those who have given the greatest sacrifice for our freedom. It is home to the Beirut Memorial, the Onslow Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Montford Point Marine Memorial, and 9/11 Memorial Beam from the World Trade Center.

Whenever I visit Veterans Memorial Gardens I reflect on the men and women in my family who have served in the United States Armed Services. I thank God for their services and sacrifices they made to ensure the Freedom I am so freely able to enjoy today.

God Bless. Happy Squaring! Thank you for sharing your time and thoughts with us. I appreciate y’all very much.
Becky has resumed her Square Challenge for September with the theme of Seven for September. It has been Seven (7) years since the first Squaring Challenge Adventures began, thus remembering the good times of Squaring for Seven.
I have not been Squaring for Seven years, however, I have enjoyed being apart of Becky’s Square Challenge. I will do my best with this new theme of Seven for September.
As Becky so cordially reminded us that September was originally the Seventh month of the year in the Roman calendar; it is fitting to see what everyone decides to post for Seven for September. September comes from the Latin word septem which means, you guessed it, seven.
Here is my first selection for this month’s Becky’s Square Challenge:

Who begins counting down to Christmas in August? Amazingly some people do, even Google & Siri are already counting down to Christmas. It’s not even Halloween or Thanksgiving yet. Why Count down to Christmas so early? Some people use an Advent Calendar to count down to Christmas, but they only start the count down at the beginning of December.
Retailers begin selling Christmas decorations in August to spread out demand and avoid the last-minute shopping rush.
Thinking about Christmas in August helps people to avoid last-minute holiday travel expenses, as well as helps you to budget your finances. Spreading out the cost of the Holidays helps to reduce strain and stress on yourself and your budget.
Mentioning Stress, why stress yourself out over Christmas? Save early — Plan ahead — Shop early — Make gifts ahead of time or perhaps throughout the year. These ideas help to give yourself a peace of mind and you’ll be more likely to enjoy the Christmas holiday season with friends and family.
Christmas 1978

Speaking of family, these photos with Santa Claus were taken in Germany in December of 1978. The first photo shows Santa’s arrival. The next photo shows my niece, Jennifer, on Santa’s lap. The third photo is of my niece, Sherry, on Santa’s lap. And the fourth and last photo is of my brother with his daughters and other children (probably at a Church Christmas party). [My brother was stationed in Germany while in the U.S. Air Force.]
Merry Christmas! Well just relax — you’ve got plenty of time to get ready for Christmas ( that is if you start early).

Road Trippin’ USA #3
Which Ways
Washington D.C.
And Beyond
In the Summer of 1985 my parents went Road Trippin’ across the United States of America. They began their Road Trip leaving from their home in San Diego, California. They always planned what or whom they wanted to visit ahead of time.
Continuing with their stop in Washington D.C. and a few sites in Manassas, Virginia with a side visit with my brother and his family.

The above are their last views of Washington D.C. before leaving the area. From D.C. my parents drove to near Manassas, Virginia to visit with my brother and his family for a spell.
Having rested up and enjoyed a nice family visit, they set out again for further site seeing adventures. They stopped in Manassas enjoying several sites including the Manassas National Battlefield Park.

My dad loved to plan at least one stop on our vacations which had an historical significance. He would also plan a different site for our family to enjoy some fun. On this trip he and my mom planned to visit sites that held significant interest to them.
The next stop on their Road Trippin’ USA adventure was The Henry Ford – Museum Of American Innovation in Dearborn, Michigan.

As they walked up to the entrance they enjoyed seeing the displays at the entrance like this Julian Stage Line vehicle. Julian reminds me of a town just a short ways east of San Diego County in California that has the best Apple pies and beautiful countryside.
Next week I’ll continue with their Road Trippin’ adventures for My Which Way of Cee’s Which Way Challenge at The Henry Ford – Museum Of American Innovation.

This is my Ninth installment of my combination of Thursday Doors & Monday Window featuring Antique Automobiles. For the past seven weeks I’ve been posting Antique Automobiles from California. Last week I will began posting Antique Automobiles from Washington D. C. and now continuing on from the East Coast before moving on to Dearborn, Michigan.
This week I decided to post photos of antique automobiles from the Rohr Museum of Antique Cars. I am not sure if this museum was apart of the National Museum of American History’s Smithsonian Automobile Collection in Washington D.C. or a separate museum possibly in Manassas, Virginia. I have googled the museum but cannot find any information regarding the Rohr Antique Automobile Museum. I do know my parents toured the National Museum of American History in D.C. and then drove through Manassas to my brother’s home before driving to Dearborn, Michigan.

In these photos you can see the Virginia license plates and the Rohr Museum Antique Cars sign hanging near a window. Next week I’ll be showing antique automobiles and such from Dearborn, Michigan. Stay tuned for further adventures into the Antique Automobile World.

Welcome to “The Numbers Game #36”. Today’s number is 157.
I couldn’t locate photos with the number 157, so I decided to choose a Word — Airplane.

Fratercula corniculata

The Horned Puffins are similar in appearance to the Atlantic Puffins and its closest relative of the North Atlantic. It differs, however, by a “horn” of black skin located above the eye, present in adult birds.
The Horned Puffin is an auk found in the North Pacific Ocean, including the coasts of Alaska, Siberia, and British Columbia. [The puffin in the first picture was taken off the coast of Alaska by my cousin during their bucket list vacation.] It is a pelagic seabird that feeds primarily by diving for fish. It nests in colonies, often with other auks.
The height of the adult puffin is approximately 20 cm (8 in), the weight is approximately 500 g (18 oz), and the wingspan is approximately 58 cm (23 in). Horned Puffins are monomorphic; in other words both the male and female exhibits the same plumage coloration.

Sexually mature puffins have a small fleshy black “horn” extending upwards from the eye, from which the animal derives its common name; the horned puffin. The Horned Puffin’s bill is red at the tip and yellow at the base. It is also larger than those of other puffin species. The puffin’s bill has fluorescent properties which it uses to attract a partner. Puffins can see ultraviolet rays, allowing them to spot luminescence on the bills of other puffins during the courtship display.
Horned puffins live among steep rocky slopes and cliffs. They prefer rock crevices or shelters under piles of rock for home and shelter which differs from other puffins that dig burrows for their shelters.
To achieve flight, horned puffins either jump off a cliff to gain momentum, or races across the water to reaching the speed required for takeoff. They fly compactly and quickly, 10 to 30 meters (33 to 98 ft)above sea level. The wing beats are constant, rapid and regular.
When the puffins are on land they walk upright gripping rock surfaces with its claws, and climbs cliffs with ease. They do spend half of their time on water, paddling along the surface with their feet. They are extremely agile underwater. Their powerful wings serve as oars and their webbed feet work as a rudder. Their plumage, like most seabirds, are waterproof. This feature allows them to dive and prevents heat loss.
The Horned Puffins feed on a diet of fish, small invertebrates, crustaceans, polychaete worms and squid. They are also known to feed on small algae and marine plants.
