2025 CFFC: March 17 — Suggesting Lunch and/or Dinner(Supper)

Dan from No Facilities is the host for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge and starting last week with the themes focusing on food. I rarely photograph food, however, I did manage to locate a few in my archives. I think they will fit the challenge perfectly.

The photos of food I found for this week’s CFFCSuggesting Lunch and/or Dinner(Supper) are all of food that was served and deliciously devoured on a cruise to Costa de Maya/Cozumel, Mexico I took back in February of 2020 except for the wrap.

The Lunch and Dinner/Supper food selections which were served were scrumptious, delectable and full of delicious flavors. I was not accustomed to all the delicious delicacies that were served, however, I did find the flavors enticing and pleasantly satisfying.

Normally, I do not eat full complete meals three times a day. The flavorful food on board the cruise ship was too appealing and appetizing to pass up. Never in my life had I ate so much extravagant flavorful food in just five short days and might or might not again one day.

Affection Between

a Boy (aka Coleman)

and a Horse

For this week I am combining Monday Portrait with the Lens-Artist Photography Challenge. This week’s Lens-Artist Challenge #340 is hosted by Ritva with a theme of Portraits.

My Portraits for these challenges were taken when we visited the Horses at Anne Springs Close Greenway. Coleman loves visiting the Horses whenever an opportunity presents itself. From the images you can visualize how much he loves visiting the Horses and the respond affectionately towards him.

Here are my entries:

This is the view from the side of the house. It is really a narrow looking house that has three stories to it. To me it is an odd shape, but everyone has their own style and purpose for their own designs.

Shall We Go for a Swim?

This week when Coleman and I visited Goat Island Park and Greenway we noticed a few Canada Geese. We enjoy watching them around the South Fork Catawba River.

This one here was looking at the River and contemplating going for a swim. Looked back at his mate and seemed to say, “Wanna join me for a swim?”

Canada Goose

… Deciding to go on ahead, he slithered right on down the embankment slipping on in the River and waited for her to join him.

Canada Goose

… Not wanting to pass up the opportunity, she proceeded to join him and swim along and enjoy the River together.

2025 SYD: March 15

Clare from Clare’s Cosmos invites everyone to join her in Sharing Your Desktop (SYD). Below are her suggestions for participating in the Share Your Desktop Challenge

  1. To do so, simply share the photo* you have set as your wallpaper;
  2. Provide as little or as much detail as you wish;
  3. Use a pingback, or post a link here so I know you have joined in on the fun;
  4. Then finally, share the fun around.

I am sharing my Wallpaper from both my Laptop and my Smartphone. I enjoy looking at different images each month. Most of which revolve around Coleman (my grandson) and nature.

Goat Island Playground in Monochrome

Last weekend was a fairly warm sunny day, therefore, Coleman and I walked over to Goat Island Park and Greenway for him to run around a play outdoors awhile. He enjoys going to Greenways to hike and play.

While Coleman was playing a snapped a few shots of the various sections of the Playground using a couple of different lenses and attachments. I used Google monochrome filters to alter the images into black and white.

2025 SYW: 10 March — Pets??

Share Your WorldSharing My World
Share Your World/Sharing My World

Here are my answers to this week’s questions:

1.  Have you ever had a pet that was NOT a dog or a cat?

At one time in my life we had an aquarium with a few different types of fish. I don’t recall which ones though. I think we had a Plecostomus, a type of bottom-dwelling fish that helps keep an aquarium clean and possibly a Corydoras Catfish with possibly a few goldfish. (I’ve never owned a cat).

2.  Did you have pets in the household when you were a child?

We had various tipoff dogs throughout the years while I was growing up. I only remember the collie we had when I was in elementary school and the short-haired Chihuahua-Dachshund Mix we had for years.

3.  Do/did you find pets therapeutic?

While growing up I never considered pets as therapeutic (or even knew of such a thing). My maternal aunt has two emotional support dogs and my daughter had one until we moved and couldn’t bring him (he was epileptic and tended to have seizures that we couldn’t afford his medication).

4.  How old were you when you had your first pet?

I’m not sure how old I was when we got our first dog, a collie. All I remember is we had him before I was in third grade.

Gratitude:

“At the end of the day,
I am thankful that my blessings are bigger than my problems.”

2025 OWS: 9 March — Haze

Hazy Skies

Over the

Blue Ridge Mountains

Debbie’s One Word Challenge theme this week is Haze. My entries this week are from a trip with my eldest son in 2017. He had a birthday wish to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway.

We drove to the Parkway beginning our trip in Lancaster, South Carolina driving through Chester to the US-321N. This direction led us through Blowing Rock before traversing over onto the Blue Ridge Parkway. We (He) drove the Parkway from this southern point all the way to the North Carolina/Viginia Border. We did not drive the Virginia portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

We stopped at various milestones along the parkway for breaks, hiking, and to check out the scenery. At a few stops we incurred a bit of Haze which impaired the views somewhat.

We stopped more on the way back southbound than we did going northbound. Our northern most stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway was at Stone Mountain Overlook at Milepost 232.5. We stopped here shortly before proceeding to Stone Mountain State Park in Roaring Gap, North Carolina where we hiked the Stone Mountain Loop Trail. We had great views of Stone Mountain, saw the Middle and Lower Waterfalls, and visited the Hutchinson Homestead. The Hutchinson Homestead is a mid-19th century farm with well maintained old buildings, a large meadow with terrific views of Stone Mountain State.

Our next stops were at Devils Garden Overlook at Milepost 235.7; Doughton Park at Milepost 241.1; Bluff Mountain at Milepost 243.4; Raven Rocks Overlook at Milepost 289.5; Moses H. Cone Memorial Park (not pictured) at Milepost 294.1; Craggy Gardens (not pictured) at Milepost 364.6; and Mount Pisgah at Milepost 408.6.

It was a long enjoyable drive and valuable experience full of memories spent with my eldest son. As you can see from the images some of our views were obscured and opaque due to the hazy atmosphere.

Pull Up a Seat on a Lone (Jude’s) Bench

While hiking a hidden (almost) dirt trail at Riverside Park and Greenway this past weekend, Coleman and I came upon this lone Bench in the middle of a sandy area near the South Fork Catawba River.

Backside of Bench

I am not sure if anyone else knows about this Bench and the Sandy area along the South Fork Catawba River or not. Coleman and I have not seen anyone else around the area. Most people stay near the Fishing Piers at the Greenways.

Frontside of Bench

It gives Coleman an opportunity to play undisturbed in the Sand with his Little Tikes construction vehicles. He is quite the “engineer” designing his own roads, bridges and tunnels in the sand.

It also allows me to have a peaceful serene tranquil relaxing place to Pull Up a Seat to relax and enjoy watching Coleman play.

2025 OWS: March — Belief

Belief Down in My Soul

Crosses at The Billy Graham Library
Charlotte, North Carolina

I have a belief from the Depths of my Soul in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. My belief lies in knowing Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. My belief lies in knowing Jesus died on the Cross, was buried, and rose again into heaven. My belief lies in knowing God is always with me and will never leave me; he is my protector, my comforter, my all in all. From the bottom of my Soul, I know no one can ever take my beliefs away.

2025 Weekend Sky(Watch) Friday: March 07

This week our weather has been fickle, sorta topsy-turvy not knowing whether it wants to be warm or freezing or somewhere in between. It has been flip-flopping back and forth from one day to the next. I wish it’d just decide to be warm and stay that way. I’m tired of the freezing cold brisk winds and rainy days we’ve been experiencing.

Below demonstrates how our weather can be fickle in just a short time frame (one day).

Taken at 6:32am
Taken at 2:30pm
Taken at 3:11pm

It flip-flopped from rainy to warm & cloudy back to dark rain clouds with more rain on the way. It makes it hard to know when it’s warm enough for Coleman to play outside. On this day outside playing didn’t last long with the tempting rain clouds bearing down upon us.

2025 SYW: March 3

1. Which of the following could you NOT do without?
Automatic washing machine, TV/cable, Microwave oven.

I could live and have lived without all three of these items. If I needed to keep one of them I would choose to keep the washing machine for its convenience.

2. Which would be your priority of these:
a warm coat or a comfortable pair of shoes.

For me, it’d definitely be a comfortable pair of shoes. I do a tremendous amount of walking/hiking and comfortable shoes are a must for the health and wellbeing of my feet.

3. Would you rather have a hot cup of tea/coffee or hot soup?

Of these three choices, I would not choose any of them. I prefer cold (not iced) tea. Cold tea is practically the only drink I drink all day long.

4. If you had the choice rather than necessity/cost effectiveness, would you rather rent a property, buy with a mortgage, or share with family/friends and split the cost?

If I had a choice and cost was not a major factor; I would rather buy with a mortgage. I have rented and rental are not always the best choice but the necessary option. I have and currently live with family, however, that does not provide privacy or the freedom to come and go by one’s self.

Gratitude:

2025 Thursday Doors: March 6

Historic Baltimore School Doors

This Historic Baltimore School is a little less than a mile walk from our home. Coleman and I visited here last weekend. The school building is in bad shape, however, funds are being raised to restore and preserve the school building. It already has Historic recognition and is awaiting the necessary funds to begin the restoration process. It will be used as a community center and museum once it is restored.

Restoration and Preservation is necessary for future generations to learn and understand the historical structure significance of the Baltimore Village School. To learn and understand why there was such a need for the school and how people and society’s views back then were so dramatically different than they are today.

I didn’t live in this area back during that time period. I do remember when buses were used to transport black students from one neighbourhood to another to integrate the schools. Times were definitely different back in the day.

Monochrome Madness #29 – Chair or Chairs

Chairs are Everywhere

The host this week for Monochrome Madness is Brian from bushboy.blog. Brian has chosen a theme of Chair or Chairs for this week’s challenge. Let’s play along and discover what Chairs we can find.

Everywhere Coleman and I go there’s always someplace Coleman can find to Pull Up a Seat

We might find a Chair to Pull Up a Seat at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden

Belmont, North Carolina

Or we might find a Chair to relax in The Center …

Downtown Cramerton, North Carolina

We could locate a table and Chairs to Pull Up a Seat and enjoy a refreshing drink and snack before continuing on a hike …

Lake Haigler Entrance
Anne Springs Close Greenway
Fort Mill, South Carolina

Then there’s a chance we could spot a couple of Chairs on display in an office setting at a museum …

The Schiele Museum of Natural History
Gastonia, North Carolina

Coleman and I enjoy Pulling Up a Seat in a camping Chair at a State Park after a long hike around the lake …

Andrew Jackson State Park
Lancaster, South Carolina

But a fond memory of a place of comfort was the opportunity to Pull Up a Seat on my paternal grandparents front porch.

My dad and Paternal Grandfather
Great Falls, South Carolina

Now over to y’all to show us some Chairs by clicking here.
