Not sure if wintery frigid cold days count or not, however, I couldn’t resist adding a couple anyway-

Good Morning, my entry for this challenge is a compilation of Coleman out in the GREEN woods hiking through nature trails.

When Coleman and I go hiking we rarely see animals along the trails. Sometimes they are to the side of the trail, in the water, or on the other side of a fenced off area. We have managed to see some Geese trying to cross the pathway…

Coleman’s mom’s dog, Chewy, along for the hike…

And a couple of Horses on and off the trail…

I have not seen any cows in the road for quite awhile now, my old landlord’s cow would get out of the pasture occasionally and wander along the roadway.

Our first stop here was actually our last time of Coleman’s Friday Adventures. The Gastonia Municipal Airport showing the runway and some airplanes.

Next up was our first stop of the day; the Lake Haigler Entrance to the Anne Springs Close Greenway for a hike around the lake. It is always a great day when we can spend time in nature at the Greenway. There are always amazingly beautiful views and is filled with tremendous fun.

Our first stop, always, when we arrive at the Greenway is to make a track to the restrooms. When we get hiking it could be an hour or more before we reach one again, therefore we want to be prepared.

Next we gaze out upon the pond to the right of the Gibson House. Horses are often in view as are various birds at times. The beauty of the reflections in the lake are always amazing to see. The walkway around the pond is new and still under construction.

After that short period, we venture towards one of several hiking trails. On this particular day we chose to hike the Dogwood Trail. Coleman is leading the way. In case you were wondering, he usually always leads the way as we hike along the trails.

On this day and almost any day in the Fall, the trails are covered with leaves 🍁 🍃 🍁 of varying shades. Coleman pauses to wait for me to catch up. He goes a but fast for my pace.

Hiking Trail signs are posted at regular intervals along the Trail. This is one of the many signs hikers will encounter as they hike along the trail. It designates directions for you to decide which way you’d prefer to hike. It informs you of which trail you are hiking so you do not get lost or sidetracked from your desired route. If you scan the QR code, it will bring up an online map and other pertinent information about the trail.

A Drive Along the Blue Ridge Parkway

After a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is nice to take a stroll or a crawl down the Scarecrow Pathway in Millstone Park located in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

For this week’s challenge I went off script a little using throwback photos of my mom depicting various types of transportation used way back when. Not quite sure the pathway that were used are clearly detectable or not. I might need to do an additional post that would be more accurately depict the trail, road, or paths used for traveling.
I chose these particular photos in remembrance of my mom. She would have been 92 on Wednesday. We were not close after I became an adult, but that didn’t mean I didn’t care or think about her. No matter what she was still my mom and I did love her.

I was able to visit the New Braunfels Railroad Museum back in January in 2020 when I had the opportunity to visit a relative prior to taking a cruise aboard the Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas.

The 100-foot long turntable bridge on the ring rail — the outer circular rail. The roundhouse and turntable were apart of the Southern Railway Spencer’s Shops Complex. They are part of the North Carolina Transportation Museum.
The Roundhouse is the largest one of its kind remaining in the U.S. It was built in 1924 and served as a repair shop for locomotives and rail cars. In the old days, a turntable operator was on duty to spin the table to line up with the oncoming train car so it could be maneuvered into the Roundhouse for repairs.
My grandson, Coleman and I toured the North Carolina Transportation Museum back in August of 2021. We did not ride on the turntable bridge, however, for an additional cost visitors are able to do so if they so desire.

The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad is a 3 ft ( 914 mm) narrow-gauge heritage railroad that operates on 64 miles (103 km) of track between Antonito, Colorado, and Chama, New Mexico, in the United States. The railroad is named for 2 geographical features along the route; the Cumbres Pass and the Toltec Gorge. It was originally part of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad’s narrow-gauge network. It is jointly owned by the states of Colorado and New Mexico and has been since 1970. The very first rails for this line began to be laid down on February 20, 1980.
We are not always lucky enough to actually see a train traveling along the Railroad Trestle. I captured this particular video back on November 28, 2020 on one of the many trails Coleman & I hiked at the Anne Springs Close Greenway. Hope you enjoy as much as we did when we watched it chugging down along the tracks.
