Amazing Beach Finds for Monochrome Madness

West Coast — East Coast Finds

The majority of beaches are more than three hours away from where we live except for around the lakes. It has been awhile since I’ve been to any beaches, so I combed through my archives to see what I could sea.

Here are my findings from out along the WEST Coast and Pacific Northwest Coast.

Moving back to the East Coast, we can Sea these beautiful and interesting beach finds.

Coleman’s
First Day of School
First Day of Kindergarten

Coleman’s Excited … Grandma’s jittery.

I do not recall being this jittery when my children went to their first days of school. How is it so different now than then? Do I worry too much? Am I more protective of my grandson than I was with my own children? Definitely things to ponder and pray about.,

The First Day of School

I’ve got a brand-new lunchbox. My shoes are shiny clean. I’ve got a cool, new bookbag And a pencil box that’s green.
But I don’t know my teacher, Or where my desk will be. I don’t know if I’ll like the kids, Or if they’ll play with me.
I peek inside my classroom. I stand there for a while. My teacher’s tall and kind of loud, But has a great big smile.
And, best of all, she’s got my Favorite book upon the shelf! I kiss my mother Grandma at the door And walk in by myself.

2024 Numbers Game #34-155/LAPC/MM — What’s in a Garden?

Welcome to The Numbers Game #34”.Today’s number is 155. To play along, go to your photos file and type that number into the search bar. Then post a selection of the photos you find under that number and include a link to your blog in my Numbers Game blog of the day. If instead of numbers, you have changed the identifiers of all your photos into words, pick a word or words to use instead, and show us a variety of photos that contain that word in the title.

This week I am combining Judy’s Numbers Game with Leanne’s Monochrome Madness and Leya’s Lens-Artist Photo Challenge . I am choosing to use the Word Garden for this week’s challenges.

Glencairn Gardens

Glencairn Gardens is ideal for a Spring stroll through the gardens of blooming azaleas, pansies, wisteria, and periwinkle. When visiting the Gardens be sure to meander through the Veterans Garden which pays tribute to Veterans of all branches of service. Also, during Spring, you be able to enjoy the blossoms of Viburnum, Pink and white Dogwoods, Redbuds, peonies, magnolia trees, and flowering Yoshino and Kwanzan cherry trees.

There is beauty to be seen no matter when one decides to visit Glencairn Gardens. Summertime brings on the colourful bright blooms of crape myrtles, daylilies and hundreds of other annuals.

The trails through the Gardens pass by several fountains, ponds, as well as the vast variety of flowering plants and trees. we enjoy strolling pass the Fountains, especially when they are flowing during the springtime. We always stop by the Veterans Garden when we go visit and remember our family members who have served in our Armed Forces.

Glencairn Gardens began in 1928 as a backyard garden by David and Hazel Bigger who lived in the h9use that serves as the park’s welcome center. It was the inspiration for Rock Hill’s annual Come-See-Me Festival which is a festival celebrating music, frogs, and fun. The Bigger’s gifted this Gardens to the City of Rock Hill through a deed in 1958. The peak blooming season is from the end of March to the middle of April. The Veterans Garden was created with the partnership with The American Legion Post 34 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2889. It h9onors women and men from the past, present, and future who served in the United States armed forces.

Discovering Aspects of Using Pixlr’s Camera

Pixlr is a photo editing app available for smartphones and PC’s. It has several different editing apps available including background removal, a great number of filters and effects to try to enhance your creativity. What you see here is just my playing around with the Pixlr camera and a few effects. I was not doing anything except discovering what the effects might look like and exploring their effect on my photo of Coleman. I am not sure that I would use all of these effects, but I might try some more at a later time.

2024 PULL Up a Seat – Week 25

Coleman’s Choices

This week’s Pull Up a Seat selections were determined by Coleman. We walked around the neighbourhood and after walking for several blocks he decided he wanted to Pull Up a Seat at the picnic table outside of the Walmart Neighborhood Market which is used mainly by employees.

We get up and continue on our walk where he sees a rock he figures would be a nice place to Pull Up a Seat. We hadn’t walked far when he chose to sit a spell, but I was fine with that since I had taken a tumble upon the uneven torn up asphalt.

After catching our breath, we continued walking ending up at the school playground. Coleman always finds places he can Pull Up a Seat in a playground.

Sometimes he chose the slide …

… Or at the top of a climbing structure …

… Or on a Swing.

It doesn’t seem to matter to him where he Pulls Up a Seat. He’s having fun, so it doesn’t matter to me either.

Signs to Welcome your Presence

Everywhere you go there are signs to Welcome your presence. Welcome you to come into a store, Welcome you to a town, Welcome you to a Greenway, and even Welcoming children to a Playground.

Let’s start with our Welcome to a favourite store in Amish Country, Ohio called Lehman’s. Lehman’s provides products that Amish and Englishers alike desire to purchase and meets the needs of those desiring a simpler lifestyle.

Lehman’s East Entrance
Kidron, Ohio

Next up is a Greenway constructed in the last five years in Lancaster. The Lindsay Pettus Greenway was intentionally designed as a hard-surface trail to ensure that people of all mobility levels can smoothly access the trail. By doing so, everyone can connect to places of interest and engage with nature. This Greenway is a place where everyone can freely enjoy over two traffic-free miles of nature in the heart of Lancaster County.

Welcome to
The Lindsay Pettus Greenway
Lancaster, South Carolina

On one of our visits to the North Carolina mountains we stayed in West Jefferson while attending a family reunion in Deep Gap. After the reunion, we walked around the Historic Downtown area of West Jefferson and discovered many interesting places and sights including the Ashe County Cheese Factory. The Ashe County Cheese is just a short ways down a side street from this sign. There you may watch cheese being made & then go straight across the road and buy some freshly made cheese in any flavour that suits your palate.

Windows to the Soul

Do you think the eyes being the windows to the soul are only for humans? Have you ever really looked into a horse’s eyes? What do you see? One can tell a lot about a horse by looking into the eyes. You can see his/her strength, calmness, his playfulness, gentleness, and/or her steadfast heartbeat.

Do you see yourself in the horse’s eyes? Does the horse see you as playful, gentle, generous, knowledgeable. and a kind calm steadfast friend?

Horses can sense the type of person you are. They can tell whether you are frustrated, stressed, or irritable. They can also tell whether you are relaxed, calm, trusting, playful, and/or friendly. Horses can sense your mood and respond accordingly.

“The eyes are the mirror
of the soul and
reflect everything
that seems to be hidden;
and like a mirror,
they also reflect the person looking into them.”

Paulo CoelhoManuscript Found in Accra

The horses my grandson, Cole, and I visit at the Greenway can sense our love for them. They respond to his friendliness and calm loving manners. Sometimes they approach much closer than we expect, knowing they will receive gentle loving attention and affection.

I see their strength, their gentleness, their trusting spirit, and their responsiveness to our hearts and our touch. I also see the reflections of the beauty surrounding them within the Greenway. I can also see the reflection of myself in their eyes.

Squared “142” Numbers Game #21

This is my first time participating in Judy’s Number Game. My entry is being combined with Becky’s Squares Challenge

Getting out in nature always helps to renew my mind, refresh my spirit, and rejuvenate my soul. This view is from the side porch of the Gibson House.

On Sunday, Coleman and I drove into Fort Mill to visit the newly renewed and reconstructed Crandall Bowles Children’s Farm at the Anne Springs Close Greenway. The newly reconstructed children’s farm is accessible through the Greenway Stables Entrance. We are moving forward ( I know you can’t see our movements, but you can imagine them) to visit the Farm animals (chickens, rabbits, alpacas, and cattle.)

After visiting the farm animals, Coleman and I went back to the car to grab our snacks and put my backpack in it as my camera battery had died. So then I continued taking photos with my iPhone as we proceeded to Move Forward through the horse stables on towards the trails for a bit of hiking. We hiked along on the Dogwood Trail, made a loop onto Peach Loop to watch out over Lake Haigler before heading back to the car and home.

While gazing out over Lake Haigler, I reminisced for a short while remembering a time of apple picking, fresh apple cider, and fresh bread with a dollop of fresh homemade apple butter in Julian, California.

Now that I have your mouth watering for the delicious delightful aroma of fresh homemade apple delicacies, I trust you’ll have a wonderful rest of your weekend and a blissful weekend.

2024 LAPC #298: To Be Young Again

We can’t go back to being young again, but that doesn’t stop us from feeling young once again. When we reminisce we remember how we felt when we were young, the excitement of getting on a bus for a week of adventure with friends.

adventure in the desert.

We remember the fun times of venturing into Baja California ( or a place we’d never been to before), of sharing our time and helping others. We remember the dreams and ideas we had, the places we wanted to see, the things we wanted to do.

We remember sharing our love, passion, enthusiasm, and experiences with children and families. We remember how it was when we were young and smile at all our happy memories.

Done with reminiscing for a while; we share our memories, our stories, our experiences with the young of today … our grandchildren. Just maybe they will find joy and excitement in doing some of the same things we enjoyed doing when we were young.

Moving Forward Through the Desert

Come on along for the ride, we’re just gonna meander around through the desert here in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Growing up in San Diego, California my church youth group would practically make annual camping trips out to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Several church families would bring their dune buggies, dirt bikes and give rides to the enthusiastic youth.

Ever since that time period, I have loved to go camping and hiking. I love being out in nature and my grandson, Coleman is learning to love and enjoy it as well.

Pictured here are actually two separate church camping trips; one in May of 1968 and the other in June of 1969. Those were the good old days my friends.

2024 CWWC: May — Squared Lancaster’s Way

Moving Forward at

Lindsay Pettus Greenway

The forward thinking of concerned citizens, volunteers, business partners, and in partnership with the Katawba Valley Land Trust; the ideas, planning, and reconstruction of certain areas into a Greenway of trails in Lancaster began to develop beginning in 2014. The Greenway includes numerous pedestrian connections with linkages to residential, commercial, and local school properties, trail heads, and nature centers, bridge crossings, and sidewalk improvements.

Comporium Communications Trail Access is the starting point for Coleman’s and my hike along the first phase of the Greenway’s Master Plan. The first phase of the Reconstruction of Land in Lancaster was completed in 2019. Our hike took place in February of 2022.

As we moved forward in our adventure, we encountered several informational signs which were a tremendous help in guiding us as we moved forward along the Greenway.

Coleman and I decided to move forward together along the nature trail towards creek overlook and eventually the Wetlands Overlook.

Here Coleman takes a minute to look out over the bridge at the creek below.

Coleman can’t resist climbing on the bridges railing at this next point or interest.

Informational Signs are located strategically throughout the Greenway. This particular one gives information about out the Lindsay Pettus Greenway and Lindsay Pettus himself.

The forward thinking of Mr. Lindsay Pettus and the many volunteers ensured the Greenway is and will continually be accessible to everyone regardless of their mobility needs.

2024 Daily Prompt: 04.18

Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you.

A few days ago, as Coleman and I were walking home from the museum we encountered a stranger. Normally we/I wouldn’t think anything about it, but this time was kind of different. We usually ride the city transit back and forth from our home to the museum or library or the YMCA, but the city changed the bus routes which made it take four times as long to get anywhere. On this particular day we rode the bus to try out the new routing system. Instead of a fifteen-minute bus ride to the museum, now we had to get on one bus (the pink line) and wait for it to run half of its route to take us to the station where we had to transfer to another bus (the blue line) to take us to the museum. Before the city transit system rearranged the bus routes we only had to get on the blue line, ride a short fifteen minutes and we were at our destination. We decided we didn’t want to ride the bus for over an hour and a half to get back home, so we decided to walk home instead. This day just so happen to be one of the hotter days we’ve had lately. However, it wasn’t raining as of yet. This year it seems to rain several times a week every single week. It is a two mile walk from the museum to where we live. we walked a little over a mile when this stranger, whose house we were passing in front of, asked us if we would like a ride. I do not normally accept rides from people I do not know, but it was a little hot and Coleman was walking with me. I thought about it for a few short minutes and decided to take this elder gentleman stranger up on his offer. It was a good thing too, because shortly after we arrived home it did begin raining. Upon getting in the house, I told Coleman that the stranger had just performed a good deed. Sometimes the kindness of strangers is like angels unaware watching over us.
