They may look inviting to nibble on, but highly not recommended as the berries and leaves are poisonous to both humans and pets.
Wild Privet is a hardy fast-growing shrub with dense foliage, fragrant white flowers, and black berries. It grows along an embankment along the side of the road (this one in Cramerton). It is considered invasive escaping cultivation and forming dense thickets, outcompeting native plants.
The flowers of the Wild Privet are a nectar source for bees and pollinators. The berries (it’s fruit) are eaten y birds. The shrub provides cover for small animals.
