This blog is for my insights on life, the Bible, hiking adventures with my grandson and whatever is important to me
Author: Deb L Waters
I am an avid reader. I read mostly Amish fiction but also read other novels. I enjoy romance, mystery, and Christian devotionals. I enjoy hiking in the outdoors, especially in Greenways and State or National Parks. I love my grandson. He is my favorite subject, so I'll post about him and his antics.
This type of plants are DECIDUOUS SHRUBS. Their typical butter yellow autumn leaves fall leaving the flowers exposed on this later flowering selection with slightly larger flowers than the species.
These particular witch-hazels were located near the Lake Trail at Crowders Mountain State Park in Kings Mountain, North Carolina.

What colour are you wearing today? Right now I am wearing a Green Til Valhalla 22 a Day shirt. It supports ending Veteran Suicide .
Will you be cooking lunch today, having something cold, or going out to eat? Before I get into lunch, let me share our breakfast. Today’s breakfast ( Coleman’s 2nd meal) is homemade apple cinnamon “hoho” mini waffles. I make them using Bisquick, instant apple cinnamon oatmeal, 1 egg, unsweetened applesauce, oil, and cinnamon sugar. I bought a Christmas tree mini waffle iron at Christmas time which Coleman refers to as the “Hoho” maker. He wants “HoHo’s” every day. However, I don’t cook them everyday. I vary his meals. I said they were his 2nd breakfast because he always wakes up hungry & I’m not fully awake when he is. So, I fix him fresh fruit and/or cereal or dairy free yogurt before I cook his hot breakfast.
Does hot weather drain your strength or agree with you? I adore warm weather. I prefer it to not be too hot, but definitely not cold. It is not the hot weather that is draining my strength but the humidity that comes along with it on some hot summer days. The heat and humidity is only bothersome when Coleman and I are out hiking in the woods or on a greenway ( which is usually still among the trees and near a river or a lake. At those times the perspiration from the humidity is consistently needing to be wiped away so I can see. However, that doesn’t prevent us from enjoying and completing our hikes.
Do you have air conditioning in your property? Currently we have air conditioning. I have lived without air conditioning for most of my life. I actually ( and I know I might be unusual in this) prefer not to have air conditioning. In my line of thinking, air conditioners tend to circulate air borne pollutants and dust that aggravate my sinuses. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy cool air or cool weather. I love to feel a cool cross breeze throughout the home from open windows. The lovely scent of fresh air is calming to my senses.

My grandson and I spotted these spectacular flowers near the entrance to the Nature Trail at The Schiele Museum of Natural History and Planetarium located in Gastonia, North Carolina when we went there to go hiking this past week.
I lose myself in reading for at least thirty minutes everyday. Once a week or more I try to get out in nature and lose myself in the woods. Mind you I don’t actually get lost. I just enjoy communing with nature and enjoying the wonders of God’s amazingly beautiful creation. When I’m reading a book or hiking in the woods, I’m able to release any stress from the day or week & am able relax and thank God for the positives in my life thereby not focusing on negativity.
God Bless. Thank you for visiting. I appreciate y’all.

For Coleman and me, The Schiele Museum of Natural History and Planetarium is just a short jaunt of a bus ride away. The bus stop is an even shorter jaunt away from our place than the Planetarium.

1. If you could reinvent yourself, how would you like to be? I’m not sure by how I would reinvent myself. If I reinvented myself I wouldn’t be where I am today or enjoying adventures with my grandson.
2. Would you like to be a pet in your household? No, I would not like to be a pet in my household. I would not like to make messes or rummage through the garbage like the dogs do here.
3. How many house moves have you had as an adult? As an adult I have moved to sixteen different houses or apartments in four different states. That does not count the times I have lived in a tent in various campgrounds.
4. What was your favourite home? Choosing a favorite home can be difficult. There are things about various homes I enjoyed & things I didn’t almost about each one. Like my first apartment with my husband. We went there very long but we were all together and spent the most time enjoying being a family.

Trifolium pratense, red clover, is a herbaceous species of flowering plant in the bean family Fabaceae, native to Europe, Western Asia, and northwest Africa, but planted and naturalized in many other regions.

Like many others I was saddened to hear of Bren’s passing. I couldn’t just pick one flower. Bren loved photographing flowers so much and she loved life. I didn’t know her very long, but still I called her my friend. She liked my posts, made encouraging comments, and I enjoyed participating in her challenges. She was always kind, compassionate, and supportive.
I hope you understand one flower was just not sufficient. It took me awhile to be able to write this post. The day I found out about Bren was the anniversary of my husband’s passing from Cancer. Even though the news made me feel sad inside, i know she’ll live on in are heart’s and memories forever.
Her images of flowers were exquisite and inspirational.
This last picture of my Dad with my mom , my brother & myself is the very last picture I have of him before he passed from Cancer. It was taken in 1994, he passed 12-31-1996.

It was a beautiful day for hiking until the rains came pouring down. Luckily Coleman and I completed our hike and were headed to the car before the rains began pounding down upon us.

Today in America we as a nation celebrate the United States Flag. Flag Day is also referred to as National Flag Day.
Elizabeth “Betsy” Ross is contributed with making the first American flag. In 1776 she was presented with a sketch of a flag which would feature 13 red and white stripes and 13 pointed stars. At this time she was asked if she could create a flag that would match the design on the sketch. Ross agreed with few minor changes, including arranging the 13 stars in a circle. On June 14, 1777, Congress officially adopted the Stars and Stripes as the national flag.
The First Official Flag 🇺🇸 of the United States of America
Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States which occurred on June 14, 1777 by a resolution adopted by the Second Continental Congress. It also marks the birthday of the U.S. Army which congress authorized as “the American Continental Army” on June 14, 1775.
Did you know there exists a proper etiquette that should be followed when choosing to fly The United States Flag?
Raise the flag briskly and lower it ceremoniously.
Never allow the flag to touch the ground or floor.
The flag should never be transported flat or horizontally, but always aloft.
Do not fly the flag in bad weather, unless you are 100% certain it is an all-weather flag.
In America today, many celebrate Flag Day with parades, essay contests, picnics, and ceremonies. Many of these activities are sponsored by Veterans groups, schools, and various groups. Some parades are organized and take place on the Saturday before Flag Day and usually held downtown in many cities across America. One such group that sponsors Flag Day celebrations is the National Flag Dayfoundation. Its goal is to preserve the traditions, pride, and respect that are due the nation’s symbol, Old Glory.
The above flags were taken across the United States in a few select states which I have had the opportunity to visit. These states include Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
Do you celebrate Flag Day? If you live outside of the United States of America, does your country have a flag day? How is Flag day celebrated where you live?
