Let’s Explore Squaring with Nuts

#NovemberShadows#5

Coleman enjoys Exploring along the banks …

… of the South Fork Catawba River searching for Nuts.

He often finds Acorns …

which are true botanical Nuts from Oak trees.

He thinks the squirrels will eat them, however, …

the squirrels near us tend to enjoy …

swiping the bird seeds from our feeder.

As you can see he has gathered a handful of Acorns (Nuts).

RDP Tuesday! Explore!

J.B. Hunt Intermodal

These are from one of the freight trains that pass by everyday while I(we) wait for the school bus. Coleman will never meet his maternal pawpaw during his lifetime, but he knows about him and what he looks like. He also knows that his Pawpaw drove an 18-wheeler for J. B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc..

When we saw these the other day Coleman recognized the J.B. Hunt logo and stated that that was the company his Pawpaw drove for. His Pawpaw drove an 18-Wheeler for J.B. Hunt from 1992 until a couple of years before his passing in 2018.

Clare from Clare’s Cosmos invites everyone to join her in Sharing Your Desktop (SYD). Below are her suggestions for participating in the Share Your Desktop Challenge .

To do so, simply share the photo (not a screenshot) you have set as your wallpaper; Provide as little or as much detail as you wish; Use a pingback, or post a link here so I know you have joined in on the fun; Then finally, share the fun around.

I am sharing my Wallpaper from both my Laptop and my Smartphone. I enjoy looking at different images each month. Most of which revolve around Coleman (my grandson) and nature.

Lens-Artists Challenge

# 106: Autumn Plus

Festival of Leaves Week #3

This week John from Journeys with Johnbo is hosting the Lens-Artist Photo Challenge. He has come up with the “Looking Back” theme of Autumn. With mainly the Northern Hemisphere being in the Autumnal Season and the Leaves are changing colours, it seems appropriate that we show off our Fall/Autumn colours. I am linking up with Dawn’s Festival of Leaves, which I feel is definitely appropriate due to the Autumn Colours of Leaves being displayed. You can find out more about Dawn’s Festival of Leaves challenge here.

2025 Thursday Trios: 09 October

Chugging Along

Five days a week as I wait at the bus stop before (with Coleman) school and after school (waiting for Coleman), I watch the Norfolk Southern Trains chug chug chugging up and down the railroad tracks. Coleman loves to watch the trains (he would love to ride in one one day). Sometimes when I am waiting for him to arrive back at the bus stop in the afternoon I’ll capture the Norfolk Southern Trains chug chugging along with my smartphone. Then he’ll watch the train later in the afternoon.

Here is a trio gallery of the Norfolk Southern Trains as they zoom past me standing on the corner.

2025 OWS: 05 October — Hanging Around …

There are many ways the term Hanging could be interpreted, such as Hanging around (with friends) Hanging Upside down (like a “monkey”), Hanging In (Being persistent, carrying on under difficult circumstances), or perhaps used as in the expression How’s it Hanging. These types of Hanging are totally different and distinct from Debbie’s example of Curtains Hanging or any other object Hanging.

I’m going to show you some “Hanging” examples of “Like Mother … Like Son.”

Guess what? Someone’s Status is Changing …

Six Word Saturday

Can you guess whose status will be changing? You might ask what kind of status … let me tell you. There will be a status change in our family. Why? Whose status is changing? Coleman’s status is changing hurt by. How is Coleman’s status changing in our family? Can you guess?

These are the reasons Coleman and I were waiting in the Waiting Room.

A Baby Sister

We had to wait for the right time, so Coleman could see the images of his Baby Sister.

Profile of Head

It was difficult for them to get a really good shot of her head. She was facing downward.

You may have figured out Coleman’s status change in the family by the images. If not, Coleman is excited to become a Big Brother.

2025 CFFC: September 16 — Hobb(y)ies — Take Two

This week Dan of No Facilities, the host for the Fun Foto Challenge has chosen to continue with the theme of hobby/hobbies for us to continue show images of our hobbies we enjoy doing. This theme gives us a wide range of ideas about what we would like to post.

Last week I shared my hobbies of photography and hiking. I was glad to see some of Dan’s hiking adventures in his post this week. This week I’m displaying images of two different types of hobbies I enjoy.

The first one is my favourite, that of reading. I don’t normally have photos of my reading or of what I’m reading, however, I did find a few in my archives that should demonstrate sufficiently.

The second on here is one I enjoy, but haven’t had much time for lately. It is one that requires a vast amount of time on the computer or out and about in family history libraries, cemeteries, reunions, or genealogical conferences. Have you guessed yet what this hobby might be? If you guessed Genealogy you would be absolutely correct. I love researching and finding out more and more about my ancestors and our family history.

Then post a selection of the photos you find under that number and include a link to your blog in Judy’s  Numbers Game blog of the day. If instead of numbers, you have changed the identifiers of all your photos into words, pick a word or words to use instead, and show us a variety of photos that contain that word in the title.

2025 SYD: 15 September

Here are my Desktop Wallpaper and Screensaver for my Laptop:

2025 LAPC #364 — A Quiet Moment

Quiet Moments can be found in many different and wonderful ways and places. It does not matter where you are, there can always be times for quiet moments.

In the featured image Coleman enjoying some quiet moments communicating in his own way with a horse.

“Let a horse whisper in your ear and breathe on your heart. You will never regret it.”

Quiet Stillness Brings Peace and Calmness to the Soul like the peace and calmness felt when by a river.

“In the stillness of quiet, if we listen, we can hear the whisper of the heart giving strength to weakness, courage to fear, hope to despair.”

— Howard Thurman

And then Quietly Moments can be found relaxing in a rocking chair …

2025 Pull Up a Seat (In a Waiting Room)

In a medical center waiting room while we wait for Coleman’s mom to finish with her appointment.

The Waiting room seating was minimal, but sufficient for daily needs.

It turned out she had to schedule an appointment with a different doctor. The one she was scheduled to see was not available. Her new appointment will be next week while Coleman is in school, so we will not be accompanying her.

2025 Thursday Doors: 11 September

I had planned a different post for this week’s Thursday Doors, but then I realized this Thursday is 09.11. I therefore, decided to delay that post until next week and chose instead to Remember our Fallen Heroes from that fateful day on 09.11.2001.

I will never forget that horribly tragically devastating day of loss when 2,977 innocent lives were taken at the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Remembering the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, 8 paramedics, and thousands of civilians, each one someone’s parent, sibling, friend, or child.

I Remember the Lives Lost.

I Remember the Sacrifices Made.

I Remember the Heroes Who Answered the Call.

I Will Never Forget.

Cramerton’s StoryWalk

is Coming Soon

What is a StoryWalk? I’ve seen signs like these along other trails in other Greenways, however, I was not previously aware that they were apart of what is considered a StoryWalk.

A StoryWalk is an interactive activity that combines reading with physical activity by displaying pages from a children’s book along a trail.

Using pages from a deconstructed children’s book, a story is displayed along trails or walking paths on poster boards, attached to fences, or encased in outdoor frames. Pages are laminated, attached to signs or podium-style boxes and are accompanied by activity prompts and questions encouraging people to walk to find the next page.

StoryWalks are a fun and innovative tool to engage young readers and encourage activities that build early literacy skills like reading, writing, talking, singing, and playing.

The Cramerton StoryWalk is a permanent installation located along the Goat Island Greenway.

It featuring pages from a children’s picture book displayed on posts and combines reading with outdoor activity for families.

The installation of the StoryWalk was made possible through a grant from the Gaston Association of Realtors.

The StoryWalk concept was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
