This week’s selections come from the Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill, South Carolina. These were taken when I took my grandson, Coleman to visit the horses he so enjoys visiting. Most of the horses were in or near the stables. You can see in slide three, the horses do love to run around in the pasture.

Echinacea purpurea is recognisable by its purple cone-shaped flowers. It is native to eastern North America and present to some extent in the wild in much of the eastern, southeastern and midwest United States. It is often known as the purple coneflower.

Coleman & I went hiking along the Avon and Catawba Creeks Greenway and spotted the sand and water underneath the bridge. He loves looking at the water and sand fascinates him. He would have loved to go down and play in it.
While he was watching the movement of the water, I decided to play around the the different black and white settings on my iPhone. The above photos are the results.

If you noticed me, you guessed I’m a turtle. I love to swim in the pond here at Schiele Museum of Natural History. You can spot me in the pond if you look closely. The pond is located along the Nature Trail.
The Schiele Museum of Natural History is located just a short distance of where we live in Gastonia, North Carolina. If you’re ever in the area, I’d encourage you to stop by & visit the Museum and take a walk around the nature trail.

This month our apartment complex decided to replace all the windows in all of the apartments in the complex. [I saw no problem with the old ones, except they were painted shut so we couldn’t open them.] Today, (Friday, 2023 April 21), is our day for the new replacement windows to be installed. My grandson & the dog do not like the loud noise & the confusion.
This whole process of replacing all the windows in our three-bedroom townhome rook approximately 3 1/2 hours. Two men at a time worked on each window. First, chiseling and hammering all around the old wooden windows to loosen them up in order for them to be able to be taken out. One crew of two men worked on the downstairs windows, while a different pair worked on the upstairs windows. The old wooden windows were replaced with new vinyl windows. At this point, I am not sure if they will be better energy efficient wise or not. One good thing about the new windows is the ability to open them if we so desire. The old windows were painted shut and we were not able to open them. It will be good to have a breeze coming through the windows instead of using air conditioning so much. Especially during the upcoming summer months. The new windows can also be tiled inward for easier access to cleaning.
Our dog had to be shut up in a cage during this whole process which he definitely did not like. Whenever the workers were making the loud noises (which went on throughout the whole process) he would bark. He would bark even more so when they were working on the windows out back where he was located. I felt for him, but there was nothing I could do while the workmen were working. I couldn’t let him out of the cage. He did have plenty of food and water and area of shade.
As stated earlier, my grandson, Coleman, didn’t care for the loud noises either. He hated it so much he would cover his ears with his little hands.
Gotta love his facial and eye expressions. I wish I could have blocked put the loud noise as well. I know we were all ecstatic with joy when they were all done replacing our windows and we could relax and enjoy some much-deserved peace and quiet.

Crowders Mountain State Park is a 5,217-acre North Carolina state park located in Gaston County, North Carolina in the United States. Gaston County is located 32 miles west of Charlotte. It is on the outskirts of Gastonia, North Carolina.

Crowders Mountain State Park includes two mountain peaks with fabulous views of the surrounding Piedmont area. The peaks include Crowders Mountain and The Pinnacle. There are three different Access Points to the state park.

My grandson and I entered the Crowders Mountain State Park via the Boulders Access Point. This was the first time I took him to this location. We didn’t go far on this trip, only 2.8 miles round trip. We hiked a small portion of the Ridgeline Trail. The entire Ridgeline Trail runs along both North and South Carolina.

The Ridgeline Trail is only one of many trails in the state park. The Boulders Access has a visitor center, restrooms, and picnic areas along with the hiking trails. At this location are quite a number of various sizes of boulders. Some of the boulders were close to the trail and too much of a temptation for my grandson to resist climbing. The Boulders Access area is less crowded then the main access at the Sparrow Springs Access point. The trail is rocky and traverses up and down and around the mountain.

Today wasn’t a day for being out in nature like my grandson loves to be with me. Instead it was a day of running errands and a trip to the barbershop. The last few years I’ve mostly seen beauty shops or hair salons. Sometimes those places just do not perform to one’s satisfaction. We too my grandson to a Great Clips hair salon and were not satisfied with the performance the hairdresser gave on his haircut.
After the poor experience, we let his hair grow and put off taking him anyway to get a better haircut. The other day Coleman, my grandson, held up a portion of his hair and made cutting motions with his fingers. Therefore, it was time to take him somewhere for a better haircut. After googling the area for a barber shop, I found several possibilities. Still I waited though until today. While out on our errands, one of those barbershops was right in the same shopping center we were at for another purpose. I felt it was a sign, so I took him inside for a haircut.
