Forage King

Bale Wagon/Retriever

Forage King Bale Wagons/Retrievers are used for efficiently moving and stacking hay bales. At the Greenway Stables Entrance where a vast number of horses are stabled and pasteurized a huge amount of hay is needed to feed the horses.

The Greenway grows its own feed for the horses and other farm animals living in the Greenway. The Bale Wagon/Retriever helps the staff to load and unload hay at various locations in the Greenway. They minimize manual handling of bales, saving time and labor.

2025 Which Way Challenge (CWWC): Any Which Way (Your Choice)

Which Way Challenge (CWWC)

Hope y’all have had a fantastic week so far. It’s Friday already and time for another Which Way ChallengeThis week we are looking at (CWWC): Any Which Way (Your Choice) They can be any type of  Road, Pathway or trail you travel as you take a walk/hike. Remember your Which Ways should be clearly discernibleSigns are always welcome in your Which Way post. The photos can be ones you’ve taken recently or from your archives. Let’s all have fun!

Here are my Which Ways for this week’s challenge … our trail as we hiked to visit the horses at the Greenway …

Hiking down the dirt and gravel pathway past the hay bales and the cows in the pasture we reach one of several horse stables … we visit with all the horses in the stables before turning back towards the parking area.

The trail pathway is long, we did not go all the way on the trail as the recent thunderstorms created significant puddles and muddy areas. Remember signs are always welcome like this Privately Owned Horses … Do Not Pet or Feed sign.

There are a few more stable areas along the hike back as well as practice riding and jumping corrals.

Next week theme will be CWWC: Any which way with lines. Be on the Lookout for Lines while you’re out and about.

American Angus /

&

Puddle Reflections

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my World. My name is Wish. I am an American Angus and Holstein crossbreed, born on February 18, 2020 at Anne Springs Close Greenway.

I lost my mom, Annabelle in September 2020 making me an orphan needing the help of humans to survive. Thanks to the staff at Anne Springs Close Greenway I grew up with human friends and horses in the Greenway’s Dairy Barn pastures.

Being a tenderhearted cow, I helped raise and nurture Billy. He was also orphaned and bottle fed by the Greenway staff.

In April of 2024 I was moved to the Crandall Bowles Children’s Farm at the Greenway’s Stables and Farm Entrance. I have made new friends both four-legged and human. My best friend is Clarabelle, a black and white Holstein cow.

I am really excited and waiting patiently to see y’all at Anne Springs Close Greenway’s Crandall Bowles Children’s Farm.

AJSP Doors

One of my favourite places to visit for hiking and camping is Andrew Jackson State Park (AJSP) in Lancaster, South Carolina. It is considered a small State Park when compared to some others, however, it is beautiful, inviting, picturesque, and a wonderful peaceful environment to relax and explore nature.

When you arrive in the upper parking lot one of the first things you’ll do if you are planning to camp is to check in at the Office to confirm your reservation and your campsite is ready for you.

AJSP Office & Museum

Later, after you settle into your campsite or if you’re visiting for just the day you’ll want to be sure and check out the Museum and the School. They both are filled with historical relics and information about President Andrew Jackson and his history within the Carolinas.

One Room School House
Lancaster, SC

The Meeting House (Aka the Community Building or Chapel) is styled after the churches or “kirks” of the Scotch-Irish in the late 18th-century. It is ideal for groups of up to 60 people and includes a kitchenette.

Besides the history and historical artifacts located within the Museum and School, the AJSP has an historical garden. The Park holds two living history programs

Visiting Andrew Jackson State Park is a family friendly experience waiting to happen. Be sure to visit during the Andrew Jackson Birthday Celebration in March and/or the Life of the Waxhaws Lantern Tour in November.

2025 Monochrome Madness (MM) #38 – Starting with an H

H’s in ASCG

H’s were not hard for me to locate for this week’s MM challenge. Why was it so easy? We just recently took Coleman to visit the Horses at Anne Springs Close Greenway. He loves to visit and spend time loving on the Horses.

H is for Horses, Horse Stables and Hay …

Naturally, where you find Horses you’re sure to find plenty of Hay and Hay bales when you visit the Greenway Stables.

H is for Hay and Hay Bales …

Now for a visit to one of the other four entrances to the Greenway. What’s a visit to the Lake Haigler entrance without a hike down to gaze over Lake Haigler.

H is for Lake Haigler …

However, to visit all of Lake Haigler you’ll need to go on a Hike on Haigler Loop.

Bos taurus

Bos Taurus is the scientific name for Texas Longhorns also referred to as American Longhorn. They are a domestic breed of cattle known for their characteristic horns which can extend up to five feet, from tip to tip.

The breed was developed originally as a result of cross breeding between feral and domestic cattle. They are a result from hybrid breeding of Spanish retinto (criollo) stock and English cattle.

Anglo-American frontiersmen brought the English cattle to Texas from southern and midwestern states in the 1820s and 1830s.

The colouring of the Longhorn is the most spectacularly of all cattle. They have shadings and combinations so varied that no two are alike.

Even though Texas Longhorns are primarily associated with the history of Texas, they have a lesser known connection to South Carolina’s past.

Spanish cattle, including those that would eventually be known as Texas Longhorns, were brought to Florida by Spanish settlers. These cattle, along with others brought by British settlers, were captured during raids and taken to South Carolina, where they interbred with existing British breeds. This interbreeding resulted in a distinct cattle population in South Carolina with characteristics that reflected both Spanish and British influences.

A Restful Peaceful Mellow Feeling

The World in its vastness may not seem a calm and mellow place to find peace and rest. However, there are some amazingly wonderful places out there in this big beautiful world where you can find respite from the hectic stressful times life throws your way.

Moon & World
Planetarium Show at
The Schiele Museum of Natural History

Taking time to get away from every day normalcy is a privilege and often a personal necessity.

I feel the most calm and mellow when I am out in nature camping in my favourite campground away from any and all folks or situations which would be stressful.

My Campsite at
Andrew Jackson State Park

Naturally, a bit of rest in a hammock would be nice and relaxing allowing for me to mellow out and enjoy my time in nature’s outdoors.

Hammock in
Andrew Jackson State Park

Of course, whether I am on my own or with Coleman a hike along a trail is sure to be had. Hiking out among the trees in nature always brings about calmness and tranquility. Our hikes sometimes brings about interesting sights and experiences, like gnomes or even Stitch.

Stitch in
Anne Springs Close Greenway

The Vast Outdoors is where Coleman feels calm, relaxed, and mellow. He dislikes being in doors and much prefers being outside and preferably in the woods surrounded by trees and water.

2025 OWS: Reflection(s)

In the Lake

Andrew Jackson
State Park Lake

Water reflections are the most common reflections we see on our adventures. Perhaps, due to being close to the Catawba River or possibly within a short drive of any number of lakes. It doesn’t really matter, I love gazing over the water no matter where we are to see the reflections of the surrounding landscape reflecting over the water.

Amsonia tabernaemontana

Aka Eastern Bluestar,
Blue Dogbane,
Willow Amsonia,
Woodland Bluestar

The Eastern Bluestar, of the Dogbane family, is  a 1-3 ft., erect-stemmed  perennial forming large, multi-stemmed clumps. The smooth stems are crowded with narrow,  oval leaves which turn golden-yellow in the fall. The rim of the Blue, tubular flowers flare out into a star-shape, appear in loosely conjested clusters at the tips of the stems. These flowers grow in wet to moist and sandy soiled areas. The Blue Star’s growth has naturalized northeast as far as Massachusetts. However, its primary habitat is the southeastern and eastern regions of the United States.

2025 LAPC #344: Abandoned

Anne is the host for this week’s Lens-Artist Challenge with the theme of Abandoned

Thinking about what I might want to use for this challenge took some thinking on my part. Then it took some searching through my archives to find exactly what I was looking for to use. The first set of photos are shared photos from a private group I belong to on Facebook called I Remember Springs Park, Lancaster, SC. These images show what the Abandoned Springs Park Pool looks like in recent years.

This next group of images are from a time when my family along with my dad’s brother’s and sister’s families and my dad’s aunts and uncles as well as my dad’s parents all met up at Springs Park to enjoy a summer day filled with fun, swimming and picnicking in the park.

Springs Park has been abandoned since its closure in 1989 and the property is in a state of total disrepair. Springs Recreation Park opened in 1924 and operated until 1989. In its heyday, it was a popular amusement park destination for local residents. It offered a variety of recreational activities, including swimming in an Olympic-style swimming pool, skating in an outdoor skating rink, it had its own bowling alley, miniature golf course and amusement park rides for children of all ages to enjoy.

The Olympic-style pool (16 feet deep) was half-surrounded by an ancient Greek-style amphitheater with a triple-decker high dive platform. It has been stated that the amphitheater was made to house 5,000 onlookers. The Springs Park also featured a Carousel, a small Ferris Wheel and a mini train. I remember the Park also had a “kiddie” pool alongside the Olympic-style swimming pool.

I was young at the time we visited the Park and remember playing in the “kiddie” pool with my younger cousins. I didn’t get to visit Springs Park often because we only visited it when we came to the Carolinas to visit my dad’s family. I still remember getting together with my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and having a fabulous fun-filled day playing, swimming, and simply enjoying time with family.

Bonus: My Family at Springs Park

My dad took the photos and it appeared our immediate family didn’t get a group photo.
