The buildings the Mayworth School Apartments were once Cramerton’s historic Mayworth School. It was at one time the center of Cramerton’s small community.
The 49,000 square foot building was renovated and now houses 32 affordable apartments for the elderly as well as storage rooms, offices, a laundry room, and computer center. The original auditorium was converted into a community gathering room and two apartments were created in the upper balcony.
The renovation was completed in 2008 with an astounding construction cost of $4,100,000.
As Coleman and I left the C.B. Huss recreation center I snapped a couple of photos of the backside of the Mayworth School Apartments which shares the parking lot with the Recreation Center.

The Juglans nigra, Eastern American Black Walnut is a species of deciduous tree in the Walnut family, Juglandaceae, native to central and eastern North America. Black Walnut trees are used commercially for its rich deep brown colour and is easily worked.
The Walnut seeds (aka nuts) are cultivated for their distinctive and desirable taste. Walnut trees are grown for lumber and food. An interesting note is that in 2017, the United States Department of Agriculture valued U.S. Walnut timber at $530 billion. Also noted that a significant portion is grown in Missouri.

Instead follow your own instincts, make your own interpretations on your shooting style. After all, you are the one you need to please.

Welcome to my Week #9 Floral contribution to Dawn’s Spring Festival. This week I am displaying Calla Lilies at various stages from my neighbours garden. Coleman stops by their garden every day on the way to and from the school bus to see which flowers have blossomed from one day to the next.
Zantedeschia, (Calla Lilies) is the sole genus in the tribe Zantedeschieae in a 1997 classification of the Araceae. There are currently eight (8) recognized species. Portrayed here are the White, Yellow, and Pink Calla Lilies.
They are herbaceous, bulbous perennials with long, arrow-shaped leaves; some species have leaves with beautiful, window-like translucent spots. The uniquely shaped flower heads, consisting of small flowers in a spadix surrounded by a spathe, make great cut flowers. The spathe is usually white or green, but cultivars exist with yellow, pink, red, and purple hues. They bloom from late spring to early summer.
Calla Lilies can be grown in pots or in the ground. These images are of Calla Lilies grown in a small garden. ‘Calla lily’ is a member of the Arum family and is poisonous if eaten.
Calla lilies generally prefer full sun to partial shade, with full sun being ideal for cooler regions and partial shade being more suitable for warmer areas. They are perennial plants which may grow back every year and continue to produce beautiful blooms under the right conditions.
Calla Lilies may multiply spreading through their underground rhizomes, which develop additional growth buds and can be divided to create new plants. These particular Calla Lilies have been divided and multiplied continuously over time.

The Yucca Gloriosa, also known as Spanish Dagger, is a native evergreen yucca in the southeast USA on the coasts of North Carolina south to Florida. [This plant is in the Piedmont region of North Carolina.] It grows as a shrub or small tree and can grow up to 16 feet tall but is relatively slow-growing.
The leaves are in a basal rosette on younger plants and are sword-shaped with sharp tips. Eventually, it will develop a woody trunk with a more tree-like form. [This particular Yucca plant is a shrub with bayonet like leaves which are crowded in the lower area and spread outwards at the top. The plant is heat, humidity, drought and salt tolerant and can tolerate some cold and snow.
The Yucca gloriosa (Spanish Dagger) attracts the Yucca moth (Tegeticula yuccasella) for pollination as well as the larva feeding on the seeds. It is said that the Yucca plant flowers also attracts bees and hummingbirds, however, I have not seen them around it as of yet.

1992 Volkswagen Cabriolet
The First-generation of the Volkswagen Cabriolet was produced from 1979 to 1993. The Cabriolet was manufactured by Karmann in Osnabrück, Germany.
It was a popular convertible which replaced the Beetle Cabriolet. According to Volkswagen Newsroom the Volkswagen Cabriolet became the most successful cabriolet of its time. The 1992 model of the Volkswagen Cabriolet was the final year for the first-generation (Mk-1 based) Cabriolet. The 1992 Model had an optional driver’s airbag which would provided enhanced safety.
Some of the popular features of the 1992 Volkswagen Cabriolet were a multi-layered fabric soft top, a roll bar for safety, and a sporty driving experience. It was known for being an affordable and fun alternative, and its popularity helped to maintain the Mk1 Golf’s presence in the market.

Another week is almost over, you know what that means. It is time for the next Which Way Challenge (CWWC). This week I am combining the Which Way Challenge with Johnbo’s Lens-Artist Challenge #345. John has chosen a theme of “My Go to Places” which ties into my chosen theme of Any Unpaved Road or Pathway.
Go to Places change from time to time especially whenever our dwelling places change or as we progress through the ages. Our interests may change, our surroundings may change, regardless of how or when changes occur we tend to develop new ideas and locations for our “Go to Places.”
Currently, my “Go to Places” depends on Coleman’s interests and selection of the day. Whenever we go hiking we go to one of two Greenways within walking distance from our home. It just so happens that both of these “Go to Places” contain Any Unpaved Roads or Pathways. More often than not Coleman prefers to hike along unpaved nature surface trails or off the beaten pathways out in nature.

Whenever one goes hiking in the woods it is wise to be mindful of your surroundings. Pay close attention to your environment using all of your senses in order to identify potential hazards and navigate safely.
Thus look up to be aware of any changes in the weather; look from side to side observing for wildlife, uneven terrain, and potential hazards like deep drops or slippery rocks. Look downward and backward always being aware of your direction and the surrounding landscape, and use a map and compass if available.
Pay attention to the feel of the ground under your feet and the temperature to make certain you are staying on solid footing and avoiding cold and damp areas.
Coleman and I go hiking/walking practically every week, sometimes several times during a week. Looking up occasionally ensures the weather is still good, no storms or cold temperatures encompassing. We always look around us being on the lookout for any wildlife (lizards, snakes, birds, etc.). Looking down the path to make sure no tree limbs, rocks, or other obstacles are on the trails to ensure our safety. We don’t want any preventable accidents like scrapped knees, arms or injuries to occur if at all possible.

As I was sitting on the swing on the front porch keeping an eye on Coleman playing in the yard, I noticed the picturesque skyline filled with amazing cloudscapes. I grabbed my iPhone, changed the settings to muted black and white using the camera’s fusion mode I captured the view I was seeing .

We were able to capture a view of this green Gremlin shortly before it pulled out of the Cruz-In parking lot. I never really considered Gremlins antique before or even seen them in car chows before.

The AMC (American Motors Corporation) Gremlins were introduced in 1970 and were manufactured in the United States between 1970-1978. It was manufactured and marketed in a single two-door body style. The Gremlin was classified as an economy car and competed with the Chevrolet Vega and Ford Pinto, as well as imported cars including the Volkswagen Beetle and Toyota Corolla.
Considering that antique automobiles need to be a minimum of twenty-five (25) – forty-five years old, depending on organization, to be determined an antique; the Gremlins would fit the definition to be classified as an antique.

Spring Flowers are springing up up and down the river and riverbanks. Coleman and I took a walk on Friday to Riverside Park and Greenway, I was amazed at all the beautiful flowers sprouting into bloom.
Here are some of the flowers we came across that are starting to blossom. There are signs that indicate other flowers will blossom in the next week or so.
The Green Arrow Arum should begin blooming in the next two-three weeks, about the same timeframe as the Spider Lilies.

Fluffy cotton-like cloudscapes scattered our late afternoon/early evening skies. I’m not sure which type of clouds these are. Hammad, how are you on deciphering cloud formation types? Are they Altocumulus or possibly cirrocumulus stratiformis?
The cloudscape makes an interesting view flowing across the skies above us. What do y’all think?

Coleman loves to play in the sand by the river. He’ll also climb anything he sees worthy of his climbing capabilities. Yesterday, his climbing took him up an American Hornbeam (Carpinus caroliniana) tree to Pull Up a Seat.
