(Calopogon tuberosus var. simpsonii) This gorgeous wildflower is called grass pink and it is in the Orchid family (Orchidaceae). The genus name “Calopogon” is Greek and means “beautiful beard.” It refers to the hairlike structures on the upper petal. It has a bulb-like corm that resembles a tuber, hence the name “tuberosus.” The slender grass-like leaves give rise to the name “grass pink.” It is a stunning wildflower.

These Artistic Doors 🚪 are all painted by local artisans. They are displayed in various locations throughout and around the Gardens at Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in Belmont, North Carolina. For the next few weeks I’m going to post different Artistic Doors for Thursday Doors.
The Scilla Peruviana is also known as the Portuguese Squill. It is a spring-blooming bulb with striking, lavender-blue flowers. The flower heads can be as large as a softball, with star-like florets that open gradually over a period of 3 weeks or more. The plants have long, strappy leaves similar to a hyacinth, and grow 12-20” tall.
Coleman and I took a 4.3 mile long hike along from the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens Persimmon Trail connecting to the Carolina Thread Trail on Duke Kimbrell Trail and ending with connecting to Worrells Walk back up to the Gardens.
After the long hike Coleman deserved some . Sprinkler Smashing Stupendous Funtime. Here is a video of showing the Sprinkler Fun he enjoyed.

1 Artistic Door 1 Door to Closed Butterfly Garden Door to Wonder
These Artistic Doors 🚪 are displayed in various locations around the gardens at Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens. They are painted by local artists. Each door has a tag listing the artist who painted it.
Odontocidium, is the nothogenus comprising intergeneric hybrids of the two orchid genera Odontoglossum and Oncidium. Some refer to this orchid as a “Bacon Orchid.” The petals look similar to hanging bacon.

These were taken with my Canon EOS Rebel T3i on Saturday, February 18th when we visited Goat Island Park and Greenway. The Goat Island Park and Greenway is located in Cramerton, North Carolina just a few miles from where we recently moved (a week ago). The Park and Greenway have many different features for people of all ages and abilities. It has two separate playgrounds: one for children 1-4 years old and another one for children 5-12 years old. It has two pedestrian bridges which cross over the South Fork River, a fishing pier, river access, 1/2 mile of asphalt walking trail, and an Adult Fitness Pavillion. In addition to these features, it also has Large and Small Picnic Shelters, three permanent cornhole courts, two permanent ping pong tables, and an 18-hole Disc Golf Course. For the cornhole, ping pong, and Disc Golf one3 must bring their own equipment in order to play.

This weekend was a rare time spending with my granddaughter, my grandson, and my daughter all on a hiking trail. My daughter does not have her daughter all the time and she does not usually like to go hiking like my grandson and I do. So, being able to be outdoors in nature with all three of them was a lovely experience full of joy.
My grandson loves to climb. It was fun to watch his half-sister follow his lead in climbing up on top of the tunnel. My daughter’s heart was beating so fast, their actions scared her. It is a normal occurrence for me to watch my grandson climb when we are out in nature. If something can be climbed, he’ll climb it.
These were take at Glencairn Gardens in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Most of the plants and flowers are not in bloom. It appeared as if the had been trimmed way down for winter. Best time to visit the Gardens is in the springtime.
The next entry isn’t a flower and is added just for kicks. The photo was taken with my iPhone by my three year old grandson. All other photos were taken by me with my Canon Rebel EOS T3i.
