2023 Throwback Thursday: Ancestral Deep Gap

An old one room school house where my ancestors went to school. The school house was also used for community event gatherings back in its hey day.

This house was an intricate part of family gatherings once upon a time. My grandfather would have gathered here with his family for special occasions or just to visit and play with his cousins. Family get togethers we’re a regular happening during those times.

Happy Blessed Easter/Passover !

This week has been Holy Week for many across the world. Regardless of how you celebrate this week or what your beliefs are, I pray that you will have many blessings bestowed upon you.

Any and all holiday celebrations have changed drastically for me since 2020. In my younger years families would gather together for the special occasions. We would go to church every Sunday morning and evening. In between we would gather at my maternal grandparents home for a family dinner and enjoy being together with each other.

Nowadays our families do not gather together on Sundays and not much on holidays either. I use to go to church every week when I didn’t work on Sunday. Holidays were special, choirs at churches performed special music which was very uplifting.

I remember when I was young and living at home, I was always given a new dress to wear on Easter Sunday morning to church. In our family the dresses were rarely store bought, but sewn my mother with love. During the teenage years, we often had matching dresses that my mother had sewn. It was always interesting to see everyone dressed up so special on Easter.

Back then, Spring Break wasn’t called Spring Break or Spring vacation from school. It was at that day and age called Easter Break or Easter vacation. This years Holy Week also coincided with the Jewish Holy Week and the Passover, a festival of freedom.

This year is the first year my grandson was introduced to the Easter Bunny. I haven’t done bunch with Easter bunnies, Easter baskets, Easter egg hunts or anything similar in a very long time.

Today, however, as we were walking through the mall we came across an Easter bunny set up for those wishing to have pictures taken. So we figured, why not? My grandson wasn’t too sure what to think of the Easter bunny at first. He decided to wait for his half-sister before approaching the Easter bunny. Even then he wasn’t to sure if he want to sit next to the bunny or not until I sat next to the bunny with him. After a few shots with me holding him, he decided he’d be okay with sitting next to the bunny without me. The following photo is the result of today’s mall adventure.

Pictured are:

and

Wishing everyone a happy, blessed Easter, Resurrection Sunday, and Passover. May God bless you and yours. Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. I appreciate y’all.

CFFC: Found in Nature-People

Hopefully this will be okay. These are old photos taken in nature of a close family member taken a long time ago by a maternal family member and given to me by my maternal grandmother.

I’m not sure if my grandmother took this photos or another family member. To me it does not matter so much as it does who is in the photos. The first four were taken prior to 1940 in Coshocton, Ohio. This last photo was taken in Florida when they went to find work picking fruit most likely during one winter when work was hard to come by in Ohio.

So, these might not be what you normally think of when you think of things found in nature, but why not display people in various settings out in nature. Pictures tell a story, better than a thousand words. What relation do you think the family member is to me? These were all taken before the family member turned nine. The experiences and stories left untold except for in the photos leaving the recipient to wonder what life was really like back then.

Rainy Day Expressions in B & W

It’s been raining off and on all week. Today, it been raining steadily since the wee hours of the morning. Ever try to keep a rambunctious three year old happy and entertained? That’s my world. It’s not always easy though. My grandson, Coleman prefers being outdoors in nature, especially in the woods.

So I decided to snap a few of his many expressions with my iPhone 14 Pro Max in Black and White.
These are all of my grandson, Coleman.
My most favorite subject to capture.
One never knows
the facial expressions
he’ll give you.
Anything from sticking his tongue out … to one showing irritationto smiles …
… to hugs
And loving.
I love the hugs
and the loving.
Decided to play around
with some collages.

What y’all think? What’s your favorite subject to capture on film?

National Vietnam War Veterans Day

In 2017 S.305 – Vietnam War Veteran Recognition Act was signed into law by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, our 45th, designating every March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

The choosing of March 29 is a fitting and significant choice for honoring Vietnam Veterans. Why is it significant you might ask? Well, let me tell you.

The date March 29 was chosen to be observe in perpetuity as March 29, 1973 was the day United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished and also the day the last U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam. Additionally, it was on or around this same day Hanoi released the last of its acknowledged prisoners of war.

The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration honors all veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time from November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975.

It is estimated by The Department of Veterans Affairs, that there are more than 7 million U.S. Vietnam veterans living in America and abroad, along with 10 million families of those who served during this timeframe.

The national commemoration was authorized by Congress, established under the Secretary of Defense, and launched by the President to thank and honor our Nation’s Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. It is of my opinion that this recognition and commemoration was long overdue. Vietnam Veterans were not given any kind of welcome home by the hometowns, their country or thanked for their service by anyone other than their families for generations.

The National Vietnam War Veterans Day is special to my family and myself for a significant reason. My husband, Terry Leon Wilson, and father of my children served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He served as a heavy-duty truck driver. He enlisted into the U.S. Army on April 27, 1972, and served on active duty until April 30, 1975, upon which he went into the reserves. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the rank of SP4 while on active duty.

I wish I had pictures of my husband and veteran in uniform. We met afterwards and he never talked about his time he served in Vietnam other than the fact he was there during the conflict.

The above are a few photos of my Vietnam Veteran, Terry Leon Wilson. Thank you for your service and Welcome Home.

God bless. Thank Vietnam Veterans and all Veterans for the service to our country. I appreciate y’all.
