This week Dan of No Facilities, the host for the Fun Foto Challenge has chosen to continue with the theme of hobby/hobbies for us to continue show images of our hobbies we enjoy doing. This theme gives us a wide range of ideas about what we would like to post.
Last week I shared my hobbies of photography and hiking. I was glad to see some of Dan’s hiking adventures in his post this week. This week I’m displaying images of two different types of hobbies I enjoy.
The first one is my favourite, that of reading. I don’t normally have photos of my reading or of what I’m reading, however, I did find a few in my archives that should demonstrate sufficiently.
The second on here is one I enjoy, but haven’t had much time for lately. It is one that requires a vast amount of time on the computer or out and about in family history libraries, cemeteries, reunions, or genealogical conferences. Have you guessed yet what this hobby might be? If you guessed Genealogy you would be absolutely correct. I love researching and finding out more and more about my ancestors and our family history.

When I originally looked at the theme for September’s Monthly Color Challenge, I read Ocher, saffron (yellow hues), plus burnt orange so I went searching for more neutral shades of yellow. Today, when I checked Terri’s post it shows Vibrant Yellow and Orange Hues which is quite the contrast. Therefore, I might have chosen a mixture of both colour palettes.

In a medical center waiting room while we wait for Coleman’s mom to finish with her appointment.
The Waiting room seating was minimal, but sufficient for daily needs.
It turned out she had to schedule an appointment with a different doctor. The one she was scheduled to see was not available. Her new appointment will be next week while Coleman is in school, so we will not be accompanying her.

I had planned a different post for this week’s Thursday Doors, but then I realized this Thursday is 09.11. I therefore, decided to delay that post until next week and chose instead to Remember our Fallen Heroes from that fateful day on 09.11.2001.
I will never forget that horribly tragically devastating day of loss when 2,977 innocent lives were taken at the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Remembering the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, 8 paramedics, and thousands of civilians, each one someone’s parent, sibling, friend, or child.
I Remember the Lives Lost.
I Remember the Sacrifices Made.
I Remember the Heroes Who Answered the Call.
I Will Never Forget.
I am thankful for our Firefighters, Police Officers, Paramedics, and the many Volunteers that serve to keep our communities safe. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to serve. Thank you for the kindness you demonstrate to everyone, especially the kindness shown to my grandson by several firefighters and police officers.

What is a StoryWalk? I’ve seen signs like these along other trails in other Greenways, however, I was not previously aware that they were apart of what is considered a StoryWalk.
A StoryWalk is an interactive activity that combines reading with physical activity by displaying pages from a children’s book along a trail.
Using pages from a deconstructed children’s book, a story is displayed along trails or walking paths on poster boards, attached to fences, or encased in outdoor frames. Pages are laminated, attached to signs or podium-style boxes and are accompanied by activity prompts and questions encouraging people to walk to find the next page.
StoryWalks are a fun and innovative tool to engage young readers and encourage activities that build early literacy skills like reading, writing, talking, singing, and playing.
The Cramerton StoryWalk is a permanent installation located along the Goat Island Greenway.
It featuring pages from a children’s picture book displayed on posts and combines reading with outdoor activity for families.
The installation of the StoryWalk was made possible through a grant from the Gaston Association of Realtors.
The StoryWalk concept was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

As scene on our hike at Goat Island Park and Greenway. The Eastern Cottonwood stood out tall and strong amongst the surrounding trees along the trail.
The Eastern Cottonwood is native throughout the Eastern, Central, and South Western United States of America. It also can be found in the Southern Canadian prairies, the southernmost part of eastern Canada, and northeastern Mexico.
The Populus deltoides (Eastern Cottonwood) is a large tree which grows to 20-30 metres (65-100 feet) in height with a trunk up to 2.8 metres (9 ft 2 in) in diameter. It is one of the largest North American Hardwood trees. Its bark is silvery-white, smooth or lightly fissured when young, becoming dark gray and deeply fissured on old trees.

Sedums are large flowering plants in the Crassulaceae family, known as Stonecrops. They a leaf succulents found primarily in the Northern Hemisphere, but also extend into the Southern Hemisphere in Africa and South America.
These Sedum Stonecrops are grown in a rectangular container planter outside of Confluence in downtown Cramerton, North Carolina.

Dale host the weekly challenge The Cosmic Photo Challenge with a different theme each week. This week’s theme is Summer Fun.
The main Summer Funtime this summer that was different than most any other time were the Summer Concerts the Town of Cramerton held at the end of each month. This was a time to gather downtown to enjoy some fantastic music, visit with others within the community, and basically have a funtastic experience.
Another part of Coleman’s Summer Funtime is visiting different playgrounds. However, this activity is not reserved for just Summertime.
How about some Water Funtime that was included in Coleman’s Summertime Funtime …
Now to we are almost to the end of our Summertime Review so let’s look at one of Coleman’s favourite things to do … Playing in the Sand.
And Finally last, but not least, Coleman’s ultimate Funtime activity all year long (not just Summertime) and that is hiking. He enjoys hiking out in the woods amongst nature anytime he possibly can get outdoors.

Most of the places I have lived over the years have not allowed for Pets. My family did have a few different dogs over the years. Unfortunately I do not have any photos of them. The one I remember the most was a Chihuahua Dachshund, that I would walk around our neighborhood.

When taking a hike along The Schiele Museum’s Nature Trail, one of the areas you come across is the Catawba Indian Village. A part of the Village are different types of dwellings including a couple of Early Log Cabins.
Curious as Coleman is naturally he likes to enter and investigate anything and everything he possibly can.
This is the view you first see of the cabin when entering the Catawba Indian Village.

A Stop
on a
Weary Trip
Nighttime is not a time when I venture out anywhere, my vision no longer allows me to see clearly to drive or walk any distance. Hence, I ventured back through time in my archives to a time when I was out at night (after dark).
The images I have chosen are from one extremely weary day back in January of 2019. It was a sad and weary time for traveling. These were taken at the Mississippi Welcome Center where my daughter and I stopped to rest and stretch our legs before heading back home from our trip to Plano, Texas.
